Circulation services exist to facilitate the equitable circulation of information resources among all users i.e. borrowing, renewal, reservation, return and recall.

Borrow

Who can use/borrow library materials?

Strathmore faculty, staff and students: Borrowing/use privileges are automatically granted upon presentation of a valid Strathmore University ID card. Visiting faculty and researchers need to bring a letter from their department requesting for permission to use the library to the University Librarian.

Strathmore Alumni: Are granted access after registering with the Strathmore Alumni Office

All other patrons: This group must apply for library privileges from the University Librarian.

Renewal

All information materials borrowed from the library may be renewed for a further period which is dependent on the user category provided they have not been reserved by another user. Users are encouraged to do this on their own using the OPACS or anywhere as long as they are connected to the internet.

To Renew / materials access My Library Account and click on Renew. Please remember that not all items are renewable. As long as an item is not requested by another user or is not assumed lost (see Fines) you may renew it for another borrowing period.

If however the loan period has already expired, then renewal cannot be effected and will be possible ONLY on personal application by the borrower, provided that any fine incurred is paid.

Reservation

i) If a required information material has been borrowed by another user, users may reserve information materials via the OPACs or anywhere even outside campus as long as they can access the library catalogue.

ii) Users should note the due date of the material and check for the item in the library on that date. Reserved information materials must be collected within 24 hours of the notice.

Return

Borrowed items should be returned before or on the due date. The due date is usually stamped on the date due label as well as indicated in the details of the borrowed items.  Various penalties (check borrowing rules) apply for items that are returned late. To extend items beyond the due date, please renew the item (applies to books only)

Recall

The Librarian may recall any information material on loan from a user by notice, email or phone call which shall specify return of the same. If a user does not return the item as specified, he shall incur a fine of ksh. 5 per book per day
